#OnThisDay in 1899, Superintendent Hooper was lauded for his success in getting most necessary supplies across the #Ontonagon River before the thaw. A bridge is expected to be built in July. #VictoriaMine #InTheNews

VICTORIA MINE
C.D. Hanchette arrived home from a trip to the Victoria mine and feels very enthusiastic over what he saw and the way in which the work is progressing. While it is remembered that Capt. Hooper was engaged in February mid that he had to go to the market and buy the necessary machines, tools, etc., build houses, and get the material across the river to the mine before spring break up, all of which was done, the last piece of machinery being brought across the river before the ice moved out, it must be considered good work and much credit is given Capt. Hooper, for had he not done all this work during the time stated it would have been impossible to have got some of the machinery across until the river is bridged, which will probably not be done until July 1st. Had it not been for his energy very little, if any, work would be going on at the present time, but as it is the location is a very busy scene, employment is given to a number of men and the work of exploring the property is being vigorously pursued - Hancock Journal

Get used to it - it’s the new real Displacement destruction - earth don’t give a damn what you believe

I remember the flood of 63...hopefully they have blasted the opening to lake Superior to free up the iceflow!😉

How is Victoria dam doing?

Drone capture changes the way we see the world. They're in the process of significantly altering how folk view the U.P., I expect. Mostly, people experience little bits of a landscape then piece that together in their minds. Do that enough over time, and maybe you get a pretty good idea of how the stuff you see fits together. It's far easier to view a given landscape as an organic whole when you can actually see the place intact through a few minutes of digital proxy. Plus, opening the place up like that to people who'll never go there is pretty profound, I'd think.

Here’s mine from 2 years ago. Best day of my life!

Cool - you can see why the ice went out in the village. Is there any river access between the dam and the power house?
